BEIRUT (Lebanon) – The eagerly anticipated inaugural season of the West Asia Super League (WASL), a new pan-regional league for the top professional clubs from West Asia, Gulf, India, and Kazakhstan, is officially underway with the FIBA Regional Office Asia confirming the date of the draw.
The official draw ceremony for the first-ever West Asia Super League (WASL) season draw will take place on Friday 28 October at 18:00 GMT+3 in Beirut, Lebanon.
The West Asia Super League (WASL), slated for December 19 until May 2023, promises to be an exciting and dynamic new club competition for clubs in the West Asia and Gulf regions. The SubZone Group Phases will be played in home and away format and will qualify six teams –three from each Sub-Zone – to the WASL Final 8.
The Group Phase in each of the WASL West Asia & Gulf Leagues, will be composed of two groups, A and B, of 4 Clubs each. Clubs will compete in a “home and away” round robin format. The first-placed teams in each Group will then qualify directly to the Semi-Finals. The second and third-placed teams will play Qualifications to the Semi-Finals.
The top 3 teams from each WASL West Asia and WASL Gulf Leagues will be joined by the best teams from South (India) and Central (Kazakhstan) Asia Sub-Zones in the Final 8.
Teams reaching the final of the WASL Final 8 will book their place in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2023, on the road to the Intercontinental Cup, FIBA’s highest club competition.
